Right To Buy
To be eligible you must be a secure council tenant for at least the last two years (or five years if you became a tenant after 18th January 2005). The scheme enables you to buy the property you rent from the local authority outright with the benefit of a maximum discount between £16,000 and £38,000, depending upon where you live.
If you sell the property within five years of buying it, you may have to pay back the discount.
